Pablo Román

For over thirty years, his work has remained outside the commercial circuit, held in private collections across the Americas and Europe.

The same hand that restored El Escorial has quietly built a body of work of its own.

Monumental restoration

Few hands in the world have worked on El Escorial. The practice of conservation, a respect for matter and for time, runs through his own work as well.

Lineage

Third generation of a family of artists: grandson of sculptor Samuel Román, Chile’s National Art Prize laureate.

The craft arrived by inheritance and became a vocation of his own. From his grandfather, sculptor Samuel Román, he learned a direct relationship with matter; from writer Raúl Morales, the conviction that every work is also a form of memory.

That double root explains a career that never separated creating from conserving: sculpture and painting as intimate creation, restoration as a dialogue with those who created before.
